Hey there,
and Welcome!
Roxy here - or Roxanne, or Rox - depending on when and where we met. Likewise, depending on who I was when you met me - you may be surprised to find me here - talking about the surprising intersection between farming and fashion. You can read all about how I got here on the ABOUT page.
Long story short, about 7 years ago I made a career change to dive into where our clothes come from and where they go after we’re done with them. I’ve managed to answer many of my initial questions, but as is often the case, each answer led to more questions. So that is why I’m here - to talk about what I’ve learned and what I still want to learn.
If you are looking for someone to talk to about your company’s social compliance program, you’re in the right spot. Head on over to the CONTACT page, so we can connect.
I’m a hands-on learner.
From riding in the combine during wheat harvest, to cutting and lasting my own leather shoes, I’ve spent nearly 7 years learning. Can I tell you about it?
Join me in the combine, at the wheat mill, and in the kitchen. We’ll journey to Salina, KS to visit the Land Institute and learn about carbon sequestering. Along the way, we’ll meet with farmers across the midwest and discuss soil health, organic farming, no til farming, the dust bowl, and farm life.
Stories include a touring a US leather tannery, a leather 101 class, a weekend spent making my own shoes by hand, and a trip to Mexico’s maquiladoras, just ahead of the Dia de Merutos celebtation.
This is where we’re going next. I’ll be onsite for seed sowing, growing, and harvest. I’ll visit the ginner and the mill. I’ll take a few classes on weaving, dying, and screen printing. I’ll walk you step by step through the process to sew a summer dress.
